White Columns is New York City’s oldest non-profit art space. Founded in 1970 as an experimental platform for art, their mission is to provide support for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial, or commercial action. The logomark pays homage to the gallery’s original location, 112 Greene Street. The four vertical bars abstractly spell out “I I II”, which is the number “112” in Roman numerals. The four bars also represents the four previous locations of White Columns. This logomark serves as the foundation for the gallery’s visual identity and its versatility allows for various interpretations.
