“A museum is a repository against time, [...] a removal from time’s passage.” —Isamu Noguchi Noguchi considered his museum to be an intentional hybrid space of changing and supposedly unchanging things. Unlike other conventional museums, he flexibly connected the outdoors and indoors through a garden environment, involving nature and the changing seasons. As people walk through it, the sunlight changes, and the shadow moves. The new identity of the Noguchi Museum focuses on Noguchi’s attempts to capture the passage of time within the museum space. Including the custom typeface, the overall system speaks to an experience of the presence of time.
