00:00.640 --> 00:05.370
It's 2019 yet were arguing on the Internet about whether or not

00:05.370 --> 00:09.110
halle berry should be cast as Ariel in the little mermaid.

00:10.370 --> 00:15.270
Not because of her acting skills, not because of her saying skills,

00:15.280 --> 00:18.060
but simply because of the color of her skin.

00:18.340 --> 00:19.560
But if you think about it,

00:19.570 --> 00:24.030
is it really that surprising from the moment where toddlers

00:24.040 --> 00:28.370
were subliminally taught that classic fairy tale heroes like Ariel,

00:28.370 --> 00:32.980
Peter pan, Cinderella and Robin Hood are all exclusively white,

00:32.990 --> 00:35.840
which is why people are freaking out that

00:35.840 --> 00:39.440
a fantastical character like a mermaid isn't white

00:40.140 --> 00:43.860
in a time when even emojis get an update with racial diversity,

00:44.140 --> 00:46.360
it's time we do the same with fairy tales.

00:46.940 --> 00:48.990
Disney introduces prism

00:49.250 --> 00:53.430
with the launch of Disney's first ever streaming platform Disney plus

00:53.440 --> 00:56.860
we're going to roll out a feature that champions racial diversity,

00:57.340 --> 01:00.240
just like the function of choosing emoji skin types.

01:00.250 --> 01:03.850
All you have to do is click the prism icon and choose your character.

01:04.090 --> 01:06.100
Unlike emojis, however,

01:06.360 --> 01:08.950
these aren't simply characters with different skin color.

01:09.540 --> 01:12.150
Each character will feature different talents,

01:12.160 --> 01:16.350
personas and even voiceovers to bring them to life

01:16.740 --> 01:19.480
flounder don't be such a guppy. I'm going in,

01:19.760 --> 01:23.460
you can stay here and watch for sure, only I could make him understand

01:25.140 --> 01:30.380
Also to really give Children the ability to see themselves represented.

01:30.390 --> 01:32.160
We're going to give them the chance to

01:32.170 --> 01:35.710
actually see themselves in the story using augmented

01:35.710 --> 01:38.410
reality Children can have their faces scanned and

01:38.410 --> 01:41.060
turned into their very own fairytale character.

01:41.340 --> 01:44.740
Just imagine what dreams and hopes that all Children

01:44.740 --> 01:47.340
will reach for when they realize that anybody,

01:47.510 --> 01:48.690
including themselves,

01:48.840 --> 01:50.900
can be the hero of their own story.

01:51.540 --> 01:53.380
Yeah.
