Parent involvement promotes attendance, behavior, student achievement, and ultimately increases the likelihood of high school graduation. However, immigrant parents face significant barriers as they try to engage with their children’s education due to limited English proficiency and literacy. There is a misconception that immigrant parents don’t care, when in reality, they just don’t understand. Via is a service that allows immigrant parents to become mentors in their child's classroom. Local companies will sponsor parents to be in the program where they will be hands in the classroom helping students who are also immigrants. Parents will build relationships with the teachers, other parents in the program, and the students.
