Uber’s public image declined after Travis Kalanick was accused of sexual harassment from a number of female employees. In order to do the right thing and set an example for women’s rights, they created Uber Equal— a service that automatically tips female drivers an additional 28% to compensate for the fact that women are paid 28% less than men. This option serves as a respectable and fair way for Uber and their community to promote gender equality, while simultaneously repairing the company’s public image.
