OBJECTIVE: Design a chair that shows a particular inspiration. IDEA: The idea for this stemmed from the use and history of hair styling tools used by African Americans. Straight hair was considered a beauty standard during slavery days and even up until now. The natural Afro is considered by some to be unprofessional and less sophisticated. This chair pays homage to the history of the hot comb passed from generation to generation. It also conveys the struggles of living in America as a person of color.
