Sonorous Objects is a body of exploratory design work which began with a goal in creating graphic scores for music.“Graphic scoring” or “graphic notation” is the representation of music through visual symbols outside the realm of traditional musical notation. Sound artists and composers such as John Cage sought to surpass the limitations of traditional musical notation by making more interpretive styles of sheet music. In my process, I first attempted to use mark-making and an original symbol system to notate and interpret sounds from music and everyday sounds from my own apartment. This project helped me explore ways to communicate and interpret something very physical, like sound, in a visual context. The project manifested itself in the form of books, graphic scores, and pieces of sound art.
