The Brooklyn Academy of Music is a multi-arts institution in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, the Academy has been the center of creativity and performances for various artists, audiences, and ideas, engaging local and global communities.
The main objective of this project was to take a cultural institution in the NYC area and rebrand its visual identity. Without using existing visual precedents of the institution, my approach was to create a clean, modern system for the brand with a nod to its roots in creative expression. I used graphic images and color to make the identity visually expressive and offer a more contemporary presentation. The wordmark is a light typeface (Contralto Small) while alternating the elevation of the words to match the institution's energy.
