Bacteria, the omnipresent neighbor, are single-celled microbes. They can be found almost everywhere on Earth, even inside human bodies, and are vital to the planet's ecosystems. Designing an identity system for the Bacteria Museum, I focused on two exciting traits: their reproduction process and rapid growth in number.
They reproduce asexually by binary fission, whereby a single cell elongates and divides into two. The custom typeface is designed to capture the reproducing moment. The doubling formula helps one bacteria grow exponentially into millions. Depending on how well the environment is optimized for the bacteria, the number of bacteria doubles every 20 minutes to 10 hours, and 1 bacteria can grow to 1,000,000. This logic inspired me, and I visualized it by making a motion with multiple 0s added next to a 1 horizontally. I applied the same movement as I created entire visuals, but I replaced the numbers 1 and 0 with graphic shapes.
