No matter how my life choices are, every choice I make should be appreciated. I always think of my mom holding and telling me, “Whatever you do is meaningful; it makes you a complete person, whether right or wrong. It is all your life experience.” As Nietzsche said, “Man is great because he is a bridge and not an end; man is lovely because he is a transition and a decline.”.
This knotting relates to my Chinese culture; before the language was developed, people knotted strings to tell a story, to mark something down.
Different knots represent different stories and different emotions. I tied all the red strings into a pile, a haystack. This is how I am the creator of myself, this is the way to document my past life and write my future.
This red strings are also a representation of muscle fiber. I am writing my own story with my body.
This group of sculptures is my past life, and my future, I made 12 sculptures, because 12 is the representation of a complete turn, such as 12 months, 12 numbers on the clock, and 12 Chinese zodiac signs. Entering adulthood is a new turn for me. My life goes on, my story will go on.
