It is a common phenomenon that original films’ content, which involves complex characters, violence, blood, and homosexuality, is disseminated and tampered with under film censorship in mainland China. It is an attempt by authorities to beautify this framed illusion of social rules, thereby achieving control over the public thoughts and consciousness. I created a community with three themes and criticized this phenomenon in the form of a brochure.
The publication consists of two parts of different sizes. The first half of the brochure is a visual typography that introduces the cultural features of the fictional community Xannity and displays symbolic prohibited items. The second half is the material analysis of the tampered film content and the revelation of framed social rules under censorship.
