For this project, I set out to create a kinetic type piece based on the lyrics of Metallica’s Master of Puppets. Since the full song is over seven minutes long, I chose a shorter section to fit within the time constraints of the school year and the assignment. With help from Joe, I learned a great technique in After Effects that uses custom-painted textures and luma mattes to create the flashy, energetic effects seen throughout the piece. I painted all the textures in Photoshop and then composited them using mattes to bring everything together.
