Junkspace Poster

Junkspace Poster
“Junkspace” is an essay by Rem Koolhaas written in 2001. It is a criticism of 21st-century architecture. These spaces are initially enticing but leave you feeling lost, disconnected, and disoriented. I think architecture should interact with its environment, and its first priority should be to support the people who enter the space. This poster was a part of a book design expressing my take on “Junkspace”. I used the work of Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser to communicate my message; his work is imaginative, deeply tied to the environment, and represents a stark contrast to the 21st-century architecture mentioned in “Junkspace”. The poster was created with images of Hundertwasser’s buildings, and the type treatment relays the message of the quote: “Can the bland be amplified? The featureless be exaggerated? Through height? depth? length? variation?repetition?” (Koolhaas).
