This project investigates editorial design through the creation of two contrasting editions of Observations From a Fixed Position by James Langdon. The work explores how typographic systems, grid structures, and material decisions can interpret and reshape textual meaning. One edition minimizes intervention, allowing the content to remain neutral and restrained, while the other embraces a more expressive approach, asserting a stronger authorial voice. By contrasting “less agency” and “more agency,” the project examines the role of the designer in shaping narrative, hierarchy, and reader experience.
