Prompt:
From a hat, blindly draw a decade. Find an artist or group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that same year. Using the guitar form, build a piece inspired by their music.
Solution:
Drew the nineteen fifties and selected Gene Vincent’s “Race with The Devil.” Decided to work with an upside down guitar, sculpting a devil face onto its base. The neck became the Devil’s tongue. Channeling Gene Vincent’s likeness in the 3D portraiture. Doubles as an not-so-subtle nod to the devil mythology that has long surrounded rock n roll music (see: Robert Johnson & the Mississippi Crossroads).
