Elevation as a Language The design is inspired by the metaphor of the stair—it symbolizes elevation, growth, and structural extension, while also reflecting the artist’s continuous upward journey, representing growth and progress. I transformed this concept into a pixel-style type system that represents the stair element: each stroke follows a “step-by-step” rhythm, creating a sense of architectural order and movement. The empty squares within the letters are not decorative; they reference the Whitney Museum’s core architectural feature—its column-free galleries—symbolizing a reconfigurable and open space that also creates visual depth. It not only forms a visual language but also embodies the fluidity of art and the possibility of the future.
