The phrase, ‘Church of the Light’ was deconstructed into unrecognizable shapes based on the stencil typeface and printed on both sides of the paper. When the printed logo is held up against the light, the shapes on the back appear on the front to join the shapes into the phrase.
The design treatment of logo reflects Tadao Ando’s design approach. He creates harmony between geometry and nature with exploration of medium. Likewise, here, the logo design (geometry) becomes complete when light (nature) is combined with it.
The front shows stems of letters that represents columns of buildings. Columns are the fundamental units in architecture. Similarly, the fundamental elements of the logo are printed on front. The remaining portions of the letters are printed on the back to complete the logo when it is shown through the light.
