Dot Vile is a Philadelphia based fibers artist. Her work is always a beautiful contrast between delicate and strong materials that correlate to the relationship between the sexes. She uses certain materials to appropriately represent men/ women— i.e. bricks, cinder blocks, metal and wood directly relate to males… and cotton, tulle, nylon, silk etc. to relate to females. Her work centers around relationships between men and women / husbands and wives, and their individual “roles”. Most importantly, she focuses on the tension between the two.
I designed an exhibition for her work; complete with posters, invitations and a book sharing her thought process.
