Influences

Influences Influences Influences Influences Influences Influences
The book is derived from a preceding project, Cabinet of Curiosity, collecting images that inspire and influence us and how we design, based on a word that portrays ourself. Analyzing the kind of works I've created, and the process I've taken when designing, I decided for the word 'juxtaposition'. Juxtaposition is usually done with the intention of bringing out a specific quality or creating an effect, particularly when two contrasting or opposing elements are used. The viewer’s attention is drawn to the similarities or differences between the elements. Juxtaposition is chosen in conjunction with the way I process when brainstorming for ideas. I always try to come up with something totally different from my initial idea, because I'm not challenging myself to do original, new, experimental ideas I could've explored if I did follow what my mind is trying to tell me to. Although it's important to have a certain style or movement that portrays our identity, it is also beneficial to always try completely different projects once in a while, outside of our comfort zone. The collection of images I gathered is a reflection of the theme, so they are divided into two sides — (simplified, understated, monochromatic) versus (organic, overstated, full spectrum). 'Influences' book is literally a book of influences, and the juxtaposition is shown through different methodologies — be it through scale, overlaying, cutouts, or simply putting two contrasting imagery next to each other.
