For "Scenario in the Shade," a sprawling installation at Red Bull Studios that took place from Sept - Dec 2015, Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe continue to mine their surrealist-suburban aesthetic. Behaviors, patterns and power structures are chronicled in a collage of unconstructed data, half finished studies and, in certain cases, pure fiction. The brief was to create an exhibition invitation for their exhibit. In lieu of their wildly imaginative story constructs that merge reality and fantasy, a side story fiction was created involving a pseudoscientific laboratory whose package becomes "intercepted" by the invitee that contains various ephemera including analysis of certain test subjects, an analysis report, and an invitation to the exhibition itself that is masked as a mandatory meeting to further discuss the "findings." The name San San Laboratory Industries was derived from a fictional reoccurring setting the artist created and the contents inside all tie back to the "ethnographic studies" of the subcultures that are explored in the exhibition.
