According to Flint, one of the U.K.’s leading research agencies, 84% of all adults in the UK use social media, and two-thirds of such adults use social media every day. This means that there is a tremendously large population of people who are familiar with hashtags.
But, as we all know, most hashtags are made up of basic words such as #drink, #eat and #yolo. In order to educate this growing population of tech savvy people, Pearson will create an app that automatically finds synonyms for commonly used hashtags and suggests new vocabularies to use instead.
