Time is invisible in mundane daily life. We don't even realize that time is passing by every second. I keep contemplating about what time is and how time can be represented. I tried to find an equivalent to a mundane sense of time, and the Chinese tradition of eating rice every day became a metaphor to express this idea. The accumulation of rice represents the rice we eat throughout our life. When we look at the numerous rice pieces around these four letters, we can visualize how long we have lived in this world. On the other hand, each person looks like a grain of rice. People are tiny compared with infinite time. I created a typographic sculpture by using rice and clay to form the word "TIME." I combined
a Renaissance page layout and its typographic style with the modern photographs of my sculptures, and expressed my interpretation of the concept of time.
