New York City Ballet is a ballet company founded in 1948 by choreographer George Balanchine with the goal of producing and performing a new ballet repertory that would reimagine the principles of classical dance. Inspired by the unparalleled intertwining techniques and complex layered formations of Balanchine’s neoclassical ballet, the new identity portrays the placement and relationship of dancers on stages. Regarding each letter as one dancer, all the typographic gestures relate to how a dancer would move and make an interplay between different dancers.
