For this series of book covers I wanted to give the viewer, and potential reader, an experience with an element of surprise. I wanted the books to look attractive so that they would draw the eye of fantasy and non-fantasy readers alike, then provoke further curiosity by hinting at the story, with part of an illustration you can see through a diecut on the hardcover. The experience ends with an element of surprise when the viewer opens the book to the title page, and sees the whole illustration.
